The Star of Awards Night, Misses the Show (Editing Exercise)

14.8.15

(Calgary) The star of the [medical supplies company name here] awards ceremony held last night, was nowhere to be seen. Professor Higgins, who has been the editor of Calgary Lancet for 45 years, was due to collect a $40,000 prize for his contribution to science publishing but could not make it to the ceremony due to a broken leg.

An interview with the Professor's assistant, Melanie Manifold, revealed that his broken leg was from slipping on a banana skin which had been on the kitchen floor. Manifold said she didn't know how the banana skin got there.

The award was conferred to Professor Higgins in his absentia.

This was an editing exercise for class I did, of rearranging bits of information to fit with the topic at hand. The instruction was for me to "imagine you are the science reporter on the Calgary City News, and you will be covering the awards ceremony tonight for tomorrow morning’s paper." What I wrote during class was really bad so I tried to rewrite it at home but it's still bad... There were two exercises using the same bits of information, read the other exercise here.
