Groupon - Burger Edge Combo
5.3.16This post is both a review and I rant. I won't go into too much detail since it's not even worth spending so much of my energy on the subject.
Last year, I bought a "burger combo every month for a year" voucher from Groupon. I've already written three blog posts on my earlier blog about the first, second and third visits to the Melbourne Central Burger Edge. So what happened after my third visit in July 2015?
August: Went to Melbourne Central, had to order a cheap burger and was given salted chips again even though I asked for unsalted ones.
September: I went to Melbourne Central again and this time, was told that their Groupon system wasn't working and to go to King Street instead. I didn't really want to but it was the last day of the month so I didn't really have much choice if I didn't want to waste that month's voucher. Turned out King Street was so much better! The man serving there is so much nicer, more menu options, and I actually received unsalted chips!

November: I went to King Street but it was closed for some reason, Bourke Street was closed because it was Sunday, so I had to go to Melbourne Central. Was told again that their Groupon system wasn't working. Because that day was near the end of the month and I had no reason to go to the city again after that, I ended up not being able to get my burger that month.
December: First I went to Melbourne Central because I was meeting with a friend there and it was convenient. I was told that the Melbourne Central location is no longer accepting Groupon vouchers because they are an express shop. I was annoyed to say the least. I mean, what does that have anything to do with using the voucher? I only bought the voucher in the first place because I wanted to use it at Melbourne Central, yet I had been denied two times already even before this. Misleading advertising!
Later in December, I went with my brother to King Street and ordered the most expensive burger using the voucher to get more value out of it, and bought the cheapest burger separately.
January: I went to King Street and was told that they were also no longer accepting Groupon vouchers! The man said that he was sorry, but they hadn't been getting paid for those vouchers for the last four months.
I still had four months worth of burger combos left and there was also the month I had skipped. That's a lot of money being wasted so I complained straight away to Groupon customer service. It took some time (a couple of weeks I think), but I was able to receive a partial refund.
So the moral of this story is that, you should never buy a voucher such as this that requires such a long commitment. You never know what will happen to you that would stop you from using the voucher, and you never know what will happen to the business either. Also, you should stay away from Burger Edge Melbourne Central.
